Privacy policy

Who we are and what this covers

This site is American Citations, a directory of family and community businesses in the United States and Canada. It is operated by Citation Vault LLC. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Citation Vault LLC.

This policy covers this website. It says what information we collect, where it comes from, how we use it and what choices you have.

Business listing information

Listings come from Google Business data and from business submissions. Google Business data is what a business has made public on its Google Business Profile, such as its name, address, telephone and hours. Businesses we added from Google Business data are Free Listings.

A listing holds a business name, category, address and phone number. It shows hours and a website when we have them. A listing can include a person's name when that name is part of the business's public details.

If you own a listed business, or you are named in a listing, you can ask us to correct or remove it. Email connect@americancitations.com or follow the steps on the corrections page. We act on requests we can tie to the business.

Google Reviews

Profiles can show a business's star rating, review count and review quotes from Google. They are labelled Google Reviews. A quote shows the reviewer's name as Google shows it in public.

We do not show reviewer photos or links to reviewer profiles. Review quotes belong to their authors. Ratings and quotes can be out of date.

If you wrote a review quoted here, you can ask us to remove the quote. A business can ask us to correct a rating or remove a quote. Email connect@americancitations.com with the address of the listing page.

Information you give us

The site has no visitor accounts and no sign in. When you email us, we receive your email address and what you write. That covers a listing request, a correction and a removal request.

When a business buys a Featured listing, the card payment is handled by Stripe. We do not see or store card numbers. Stripe tells us that a payment was made and which business made it.

Information collected automatically

Our pages are delivered by a content delivery network run by Bunny. It receives your IP address and the address of the page you asked for, as any web host does. Those requests can be kept in hosting logs.

This site does not use analytics, session recording or advertising tags. We will update this page before we add any.

This site runs only small scripts of its own. They keep your light or dark choice in your browser's local storage, under the name site-theme, and compare a business's listed hours with your clock. They send nothing anywhere, and the site loads no scripts or fonts from any other company.

Cookies and your choices

This site sets no cookies. It has no account or checkout pages, so Stripe sets none here either. The light or dark choice is kept in browser storage and is not a cookie.

You can clear browser storage, or block cookies, in your browser settings. The site works the same without either.

How we use information

We use listing information to publish the directory and keep it accurate. We use what you send us to answer you, to add, fix or remove a listing, and to run a Featured listing.

Hosting logs help keep the site running and stop abuse.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share information with the companies that help us run the site.

Bunny delivers the pages and Stripe handles card payments. Our email provider carries the messages you send us and our replies.

Each of them handles data under its own terms and privacy policy. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for. A listing stays up while the business fits the directory, or until it is removed on request. Bunny and Stripe each keep their data under their own settings and policies.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you. You can ask us to correct it or delete it. Email connect@americancitations.com.

Residents of California and some other US states, and residents of Canada, have privacy rights under their own laws. We take a request from anyone the same way, wherever they live. We may ask for enough detail to tie a request to you or to your business.

Children

This site is for adults looking up businesses. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. Pages are served over an encrypted connection. No website can promise perfect security, and we do not.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date below.
